There are a lot of ways that students can get involved on campus. You can work down at the waterfront, taking supplemental seamanship working on the schooner crew. Joining one of the many sports teams on campus. The athletics department is very active here. Most students here are student athletes. I myself am a member of the sailing team.
Students can remain involved in school. There are many ways, clubs, athletics. Currently, right now I'm working for admissions, I do tours, and then I worked for athletics as well.
The dining options on campus include the main dining room, the mess deck, which is a buffet option for all students on campus. Below it is the waypoint, which is a made to order restaurant using Mariner money or cash. Other than that there are a couple small restaurants in Castine.
There are a lot of activities that the Resident Assistants put on. So like last night, there was like a video game tournament. Other RAs have done like nature walks, they've done stargazing. So it's just-- the RA's make it a very involved community within, and walking around the dorm and seeing everybody and saying hi, you know, engaging in conversation that just that goes a long way.
Maine Maritime fosters a real family like feel on its campus because we're so isolated, down in Castine. It's a little ways away to any other town. So being here on the weekends, really helps you feel like you're part of a real small community, which is something that I was looking for. And having one mess deck, one dorm, you really get a really different vibe around campus than you would a lot of other places.
