We have anywhere from 350 to 425 student athletes competing in Mariners athletics each year. Mariners athletics competes in NCAA Division III. The majority of our sports teams compete in the North Atlantic Conference, but our varsity sailing program competes in the Intercollegiate Sailing Association.
At Maritimes and Maine Maritime we also sail keelboats. So larger, larger sailboats. Our programs use Colgate 26's, which are kind of a smaller keelboat, and then we also have a range of other bigger keelboats used for our offshore sailing program as well.
So one of the best parts about being a student athlete is the close knit community that the athletes have with each other. Going to college can be a really scary thing, especially if you're from far away. So having those girls there, having that team to back you up is so amazing. And you know, we develop these really close relationships because we're always together.
InCommand program developed for all freshmen athletes. And as you grow up into a sophomore and junior leadership program that turns into iLead. In doing that they bring in motivational speakers and leadership coaching to help develop programs and student athletes to become the best leaders on and off the field as they can.
